Choosing the right entity
The most expensive tax decisions a small business makes usually happen before it earns anything — the entity type, the state of registration, and whether to elect S-Corp treatment. Getting this wrong is fixable, but it is far cheaper to get right at the start.
An S-Corp election can reduce self-employment tax once profit is consistently above a certain level, but it also brings payroll obligations, a reasonable-salary requirement and a separate return. Below that level it usually costs more than it saves. We will run your actual numbers rather than give you the generic answer.
Books that are ready at year end
Most of the pain in a business return comes from bookkeeping that was never reconciled. When we keep the books, the return is a continuation of work already done rather than a scramble in March.
